Situated on the north eastern side of the town center - Signal Hill, is a natural area where one can peacefully enjoy Kota Kinabalu's skyline with a spectacular view that extends to Likas Bay and to the islands.

The observation deck built on the edge of Signal Hill is a 15 to 20 minute uphill stroll from Jalan Bukit Bandera passing through the infamous Atkinson's Clock tower - which is in fact, one of the oldest buildings in the city and has been declared as a heritage building in 1998.

One thing I've learned from my first trip abroad is whether I'll be booking cheap flights to larnaca or any place else, is to book early morning flights so as to maximize my time to explore during trips. It was almost evening when we arrived at Kota Kinabalu and had spent two more hours looking for a place to stay. We only had approximately 14 hours of day light to get around the city and see everything that we can see (our flight the next day is scheduled at noon).

Wihtout any itinerary, checking out the signal hill observatory is a must to catch a glimpse of the whole city and have an idea where to go and what to do next. And, the early morning uphill stroll is essential to keep the heart pumping and the blood flowing for the day's journey.
